SLO or SGO Formulas

Algorithms

The following algorithms are used in the SLO/SGO (Student Learning Objective or Student Growth Objective) module. Reference the key terms after the table for an explanation of terminology.

NameFormulaExplanationExample
% Improvement(1-base) * percent change + base + static changeThis algorithm calculates a target score the students need to improve upon their incorrect percentage.Students in my Algebra I class will improve by 50% on their Algebra I Pre-assessment score.
(1-.60) * .5 + 60 + 0Target Score = 80%If a student earned a 60% on the pre-assessment using this algorithm based on a 50% improvement, their target score would be 80% because the student would need to improve 50% on the 40% incorrect. This means their improvement would be 20% on top of the 60% originally earned.
% Increase(base * percent change) + base + static changeThis algorithm calculates a target score in which the students need to improve upon their correct percentage.Students in my Algebra I class will increase their scores on the Algebra I assessment by 50%.
(.60 * .5) + 60 - 0Target Score = 90%If a student earned a 60% on the base test, using this algorithm with a 50% increase, their score would be 90% because the student would need to improve by 50% of the 60% correct base test score. This means their increase would be 30% on top of the 60% originally scored.
% Achievement((MV * MV_use) + (TV * TV_use) + Overrides) *100This algorithm calculates the target score in which the students need to earn above a certain level of performance.Students in my Algebra I class will be proficient on the Algebra I assessment.
TV is used and set at 65%.Target Score= 65%This algorithm does not look at a base score, but rather at the percentage set for either the Threshold or Mastery Value. Students' performance on the assessment will be compared to the TV or MV to determine if they met their target score.
Points ImprovementBase- Points ImprovedThis algorithm calculates target points the students need to improve by on a rubric.Students in my Language Arts 7 class will improve by a rubric score of 1 on Organization from the pre-assessment to the post-assessment.
3 + 1Target Score = 4If a student earned a 3 on the pre-assessment, their score would be 4, since the student needs to increase by 1 on the rubric score of 3.

Key Terms

BaseThe initial score is used to derive a target score.
Percent ChangeThe percentage difference between a student's target and base scores.
Static ChangeA percentage that is chosen to impact all students' target scores equally.
MVMastery Value: A percentage set to determine when students reach mastery (green) on an assessment.
MV_useA flag to set the target score to the mastery value.
TVThreshold Value: A percentage set to determine when students reach proficiency (yellow) on an assessment.
TV_useA flag to set the target score to the threshold value.
Threshold AllowanceA number to color-code final student scores yellow (close to reaching their target). No impact on the overall teacher rating.
